"To have a river in your backyard with a boat on the dock is a great peace of mind...it's a passage to the bays and oceans which connect us to the rest of the world"
At Northeast Adventure Company, we strive to help you have a fantastic experience in the outdoors. Our kayaking programs as well as all of our programs are tailored to fit the needs and expectations of you and your group. We are able to do this with experienced guides and instructors as well as a great enthusiasm for being on the water. Our instructors and guides are fully certified and our programs are designed to help you feel comfortable and confident on the water.
Since we are able to come to you, NAC is able to offer kayaking activities on a river or lake in your area. There is also the desire to explore somewhere new which we are able to accommodate as well. Just tell us where and we will help you put together an unforgettable adventure anywhere in the Northeast.
Our kayaking programs can be divided into two main categories...instructional and recreational.
Fundamentals I: This program focuses on the anatomy of the paddler and the parts of the boat as well as getting in and out of the boat and learning strokes that will help you to maneuver the boat.
Fundamentals II: A continuation of fundamentals I focusing on all of the paddling strokes, self rescue, and "reading the river".
Kayak Safety: This program focuses on proper planning (clothing, weather conditions, equipment), self rescues and assisting others in distress.
These are tailored to fit your groups adventure and no previous experience is required. We can bring boats to you and enjoy a day on the lake with games or meet us at the destination of your choice for a day of paddling and exploration.
We all need challenges in our lives in order to grow and learn more about ourselves and our surroundings...ropes courses are the perfect catalyst for such experiences. Ropes courses consist of a series of elements. An element consists of ropes and cables which are connected between two trees either a couple of feet off the ground(low ropes) or through the tree-tops(high ropes/harness included). It is time to climb out of your comfort zone and get new perspective. Whether it is a high ropes course to challenge the individual or a series of low ropes elements to challenge the group, at the end of the day everyone will have something important to take home.
Our staff at Northeast Adventure Company are specially trained to facilitate ropes activities that explore responsibility, identifying barriers, respecting differences, creative problem solving, exploring strengths and weaknesses, trust, empowerment and leadership to name a few. It is amazing the things we learn about ourselves or group members when we push our comfort zone. These activities are designed for all ages and they can be integrated for businesses and schools alike. Also, these activities as with all NAC activities are Challenge By Choice which means that no one has to do anything that makes them feel too uncomfortable (however, risk taking is encouraged...this is why they are called challenges).
Low Ropes Course: This is a series of elements or challenges accessible from the ground, usually consisting of rope swings, rope webs, wooden platforms and wooden walls. There are a number of different challenges for each element. Facilitators help the group set goals for themselves for each element throughout the course and it is always exciting!
High Ropes Course: This is a series of elements in the tree tops, usually consisting of rope swings, rope webs, wooden platforms, tightropes and zip lines. Our facilitators help individuals into a harness, up and away to challenge themselves on a different level.
Initiatives and Group Activities
Accessibility is important for us at NAC. We want to be able to bring the outdoors and experiential learning to you. This is why we have set up initiative programs, wilderness skills and map and compass programs which we take on the road to schools and youth programs around the Northeast. Our facilitators will bring the classroom to an athletic field or park near your school or business. We can also plan winter programs in the gymnasium or recreation center nearby. There are initiatives for all ages and our programs are a great way to incorporate some experiential education into the curriculum. Not to forget the group bonds and individual relationships that are strengthened.
Initiative Program: Depending on the goals of the group, which are discussed prior to the program, our facilitators provide a sequence of group games and challenges involving small props and toys. The initiatives may be "get to know you games" or group challenges or trust activities. You would be surprised at how well some of these initiatives work to bring out strengths and weaknesses which could be related to the workplace or the classroom.
Wilderness Skills: Our facilitators will demonstrate some or all of the following...Proper clothing and equipment for a wilderness adventure, identifying a safe campsite, managing a campsite, setting up a tarp, cooking in the outdoors, building a fire, practicing low impact and leave-no-trace techniques.
Map and Compass: This program teaches how to read a map, use a compass, and then how to use a map and compass together in order to find your way. There is also a great treasure hunt we have to test your orientation skills in the end.
